30,000 Families in the community have received information to prevent the use of drugs.

-In addition, more than 1,400 courses have made to this end in 104 municipalities in the region

Madrid, June 2012- nearly 30,000 families residing in the region have received information to prevent the use of drugs in their environment through family universal prevention programmes of the anti-drug agency of the community of Madrid, from its launch in the year 2000.

Moreover, since that date, more than 1,400 courses made for this purpose in 104 municipalities in the region.

Thus it was revealed the Managing Director of the anti-drug agency of the community of Madrid, Almudena Pérez, during the presentation of the Conference brain and drug ” in charge of Rafael Maldonado López, Professor of Pharmacology of the unit of neuropharmacology of the University Pompeu Fabra of Barcelona. The Conference has been organized by the anti-drug agency and the Foundation help against drug addiction (FAD).

Around 200 parents who participated in the 2011 edition – 2012 in the programme + family ” attended the Conference, held today in the Auditorium of the Fundación ONCE, and the subsequent mesa-coloquio in which also participated Ignacio Calderón Balanzategui, director general of the Foundation for aid against drug addiction.

The Director Manager during his speech stressed the importance of the role of parents as primary responsibility the more direct and of the health of the children and, specifically in the prevention of drug ”.

Pérez also stressed that to be able to prevent, it is essential to have information on the behaviors and attitudes of the population to drugs and other addictions and, specifically, those of adolescents ”.

Participation of the families

The objective of this celebration is, with the participation of families, discuss the role of parents and other relatives in the prevention of drug consumption and the development of drug addiction.

Last year, about 3,000 parents of 41 municipalities in the region participated in the activities of the preventive programme + family ” directed to all the families of the community of Madrid with children aged between 3 and 16 years. The program aims to educate parents about the importance of family prevention as a protection against possible drug consumption factor, inform about the different types of drug, as well as the risks associated with their use, and learn about strategies and resources to improve their educational skills.
