Madrid, April 2012.- ADT fire and security solutions provider, unveiled before the imminent arrival of the Easter holidays, when there are thousands of movements of travelers, the results of its study on public safety in the transport infrastructure ” which analyse: public safety perception and antisocial behaviour of the Spaniards in these environments.
The study of ADT points metro stations are facilities which are perceived as the most unsafe, in fact 30% qualifies its bad or very bad security and provide an index of security – 2.10%. Follow the bus stations with a 3.12% security index and nearby 10,23% stations. The security index is calculated as the percentage difference between the positive and negative ratings.
Because otherwise, the spaces that are perceived as safer (39,13%) train stations and airports, only 10.2% perceived them as unsafe, compared to 63.8 per cent which it describes as good or very good safety.
By autonomous communities, the Catalans are, by far, which show a lower confidence in the safety of infrastructures of transport, ahead of Valencia, Andalusia and Madrid.
Car parks, the warmest areas
Robberies, assaults, acts of vandalism and hooliganism are the anti-social behaviour that the Spaniards observed more frequently in the stations of subway, bus and commuter. As for airports and long-haul train stations, the most sensitive point is the parking area, being the subtraction of objects inside the vehicle and the vehicle itself, the most prominent in these facilities antisocial behaviour.
16% Of those questioned claimed to have been direct victims of any crime or vandalism act in transport infrastructure. Of these, most suffered stealing handbags or wallets (58.4%) or threats and intimidation (20.4%). In addition, 39.4% of respondents claims to have been witness to any crime or act of vandalism.
The perception of the general behavior of users shows a positive trend: 25% considers the behavior of the users of transport facilities in civic general, compared with only 13 per cent perceived incÃvico behaviour, however the majority (62%) him as indifferent.
The Spanish considered insufficient security measures
About 60% of Spaniards considered that existing security measures are currently inadequate. Most calls for increased presence of staff security (78.5 per cent), the installation of closed circuit television (CCTV) and video surveillance (52%) and a greater and better lighting in different areas of the facilities (51%).
The study shows us clearly that Spaniards have a perception rather negative about the security in transport infrastructure. Curiously this perception does not correspond with the official data on Crime published by the Ministry of the Interior and that show a progressive decline in crimes committed in recent years, are also below the data registered in the countries of our environment ”, says Ricardo Arroyo, CEO of ADT Spain. 57.5% of the Spanish finds that security measures are not enough. Probably could be done more to reinforce the sense of security of users, with visible measures of prevention, such as access, CCTV and other control systems. I think that it is something that users are demanding to feel safer ”.
