Mexico, 2 mar (EFE).-A total of 191 people were killed in Mexico in so far this year because of H1N1 flu, implying an increase of 15% in a week in the number of deaths, the Ministry of Health reported today.
The unit said in a statement that from January 1 to March 1, 2012 is confirmed 6.066 cases and 207 deaths by different types of viruses of influenza circulating in the country, of which 5.468 cases (90%) and 191 deaths (92 per cent) correspond to the variety AH1N1.
The Ministry of health had reported that the number of deaths by H1N1 flu until 23 February was 166 victims.
According to the release on Friday, 85% of patients who have died this year by influenza in the country were not vaccinated and 73% had a co-morbidity, being the most common diabetes mellitus, obesity and high blood pressure.
The H1N1 virus was detected in Mexico between March and April 2009 and, locally, the alert by this evil remained until June 29, 2010, when there were some 1,300 deaths and more than 70,000 cases.
Currently in this country circulate three seasonal influenza virus: H1N1, AH3N2 and influenza B and influenza vaccine protects against these three seasonal viruses. EFE
