Madrid, March 2012.- the I Forum of neuropsychology and disability held on 1 and 2 March in the Auditorium of the CSIC was inaugurated by Montserrat Gomendio, Secretary of State of educationVocational training and University, who opted for advancing research in neuroscience and Neuropsychology and use it to improve learning in intellectual disability. In addition, also participated in the inaugural conference, Mary Baron, President of the Down Syndrome Foundation of Madrid; LuÃs Gaius Pérez Bueno, Chairman of the Spanish Committee of representatives of people with disabilities; Emilio Lora-Tamayo, President of the CSIC; and Miguel Angel Pérez, Dean of the Faculty of Cc. Of the health of the University Camilo José Cela.
In the round table prior to the closing of the Forum, Sonja Uhlmann, Director of the school stage of the Syndrome Foundation of Madrid Down, stressed the long history of the Foundation for people with Down syndrome and other intellectual disabilities and the importance of further enhancing research in neuroscience and Neuropsychology as a way to strengthen the máultimate educational, social and labour integration of people with disabilities.
Likewise, Manuel Nevado, Member of the directive Board of the official College of psychologists is committed to the creation of a group of working within the College on intellectual disability. Further agreed the signing of a Convention of collaboration with the Foundation whose content will be officially launched soon.
On the other hand, the publisher Pearson announced its sponsorship for the next Forum, to be held in 2014 and the University Camilo José Cela, in the person of its Dean Miguel Ãngel Pérez, stressed its firm commitment to the Down Syndrome Foundation of Madrid and in this Forum stressed the success of the Foundation meet at the same table to the three sectors involved: University, business and professionals.
Practitioners specialized in disability and belonging to the University, health, investigative field and nurse practitioners who participated in this forum include: Henri Blehaut, director of Research Department of the Fondation Jèrôme Lejeune; researcher at the Centre for Genomic regulation in Barcelona, Mara Dierssen; the head of the psychiatric and intellectual disabilities of the Institute of healthcare service (Girona), Ramon Novell; the researcher in the Group of research cognitive and affective of the Aston Brain Centre (Birmingham), Fabiola Garcia; or the director of the laboratory of Experimental embryology of the Institute of Neurosciences (Alicante) Salvador MartÃnez, among others.
