More than 30% of the recipes of the Health Department of the Bank have been prescribed with generic drugs in the first half of the year, a result that exceeds 6 points the average regional and 4 State. These data are this Health Organization at the forefront that dispensation of generic pharmaceutical products is concerned.
Thanks to this and other measures referred to in the Strategic Plan of rational drug use (PURM), has been a significant decline in pharmaceutical Department spending possible. Specifically, the cost of medicines has been reduced by 17%, a decline also higher than the Community average encrypted by 15%.
The Department of the Bank launched in 2004 a programme aimed at all professionals of the organization with the goal of spreading a culture and attitudes of proper use of medication, since the limitation until delivery and consumption. The PURM includes the publication of guides on rational use of medication, briefings on medicines directed to professionals or outreach talks aimed at the population in general.
It is a generic pharmaceutical product sold under the name of the active principle that incorporates (substance that is made), but identical in composition and pharmaceutical form to the original brand.
In the words of Dr. Manuel MarÃn, managing director of the Department of health of the Bank, prescription of generic medications has become a priority objective, because in addition to assume a significant savings for the patient and the State, it plays a key role in the financial sustainability of the national health system ”.
In this regard, experts say that the generic has a cost of between 20 and 25 per cent below the original drug as not is added to the final price the costs of research or brand promotion. However, the generic has the same therapeutic efficacy and safety to the corresponding medicinal product with trade mark.
Prescribe active ingredient
Other measures included in the Strategic Plan of rational drug use and that has led the decline in pharmaceutical spending, has been prescribing recipes from professionals through the so-called active principle. This means dispensing a prescription to include only the name of the active substance and its dose, without indicating any trade mark, so that later the pharmacist is obliged to dispense product of lower cost to the patient.
In this sense, 2009 the Department of the Bank has since this type of prescription in more than 25 points to exceed this year 36%. In addition, this figure exceeds 13% the average of the community in the first half of 2011. These data reflect, therefore, that almost 4 of every 10 recipes issuing doctors in the region are prescribed by active ingredient.
In the same vein, the plenary session of the Council Interterritorial of the national health system, chaired by the Minister of health, Leire Pajin, recently approved compulsory for doctors for their prescriptions prescribing treatments active ingredient instead of the trademark.
