Madrid, 2 APR ( EFE).-the Spanish Agency of medicines and Health products ( AEMPS) authorized 1,934 medicinal products for human use in 2011, of which 77 per cent were generic, according to the report annually of this body, under the Ministry of health, Social services and equality.
The total number drugs approved last year was an increase of 40 per cent compared with 2010, explains Health said in a statement.
Spanish system of pharmacovigilance of medicinal products for human use received 14.886 notifications of suspected adverse reaction in 2011.
As regards inspections and control of medicines, 12 per cent of them were international, mostly requested by the European Medicines Agency.
On drugs illegal and counterfeit, the note points out the increase in the number of samples sent to the AEMPS by courts and bodies and forces of the State security, which last year were 3.936, 93 percent more.

In the chapter of “medical devices”, the AEMPS, acting as a notified body, awarded the CE European conformity to 213 products and extended certificates of this type to other 121, in addition to making 119 quality audits.
Performances for surveillance in health products, there were 2,378 during the year, and were transmitted 638 alerts, 16 percent more.
In the area of cosmetics and personal hygiene products, the largest increase of activities was in control of the market: 1,988 performances, 32 percent more than in 2010, and the issuance of certificates for export (1728).
Were authorized 96 products of personal hygiene and 197 modifications of others already in existence, in addition to 25.713 information for the purpose of medical treatment of cosmetics.
