SEMERGEN and ESTEVE create a chronicity Chair together with the Catholic University of Valencia
-One of the essential objectives of the Chair next to the educational and training activities is the promote research integrated pathology Chronicles.
-heart failure and chronic kidney disease are, initially, the main axes on which rotate the teaching and research work.
Valencia, April 2012.- The Spanish society of physicians in primary care (SEMERGEN), in collaboration with ESTEVE, has signed the agreement for the creation of the SEMERGEN-ESTEVE Chair of chronicity, along with the Catholic University of Valencia San Vicente Mártir (UCV). According to José Luis Llisterri, Chairman of SEMERGEN and director of the Chair the signing of this agreement means an important approach to the University, that will boost the research from the perspective of family medicine in the Faculty of medicine ”. The Act has been chaired by the Minister of health, Luis Rosado, and José Alfredo Peris, Rector of the UCV.
SEMERGEN President has stressed that this new Chair is born with the intention of being a national point of reference on the knowledge of chronic diseases and in the generation of scientific evidence in this area ”. This Chair, concocted during more than one year of work, is intended to encourage research, study and realization of scientific and clinical work in the area of the chronic patient care.
José Luis Llisterri said health care for the chronically ill involves changes in health policies and the Organization of assistance, from a model of attention to the acute disease (episodes healing), to a model of care for chronic conditions in which patients, carers, health professionals and health system are coordinated for a complete management of the chronicity from a population perspective.
For his part, José Alfredo Peris, Rector of the UCV, has added to the bet of the UCV by interdisciplinarity has an axis of convergence which brings together us strategic option which is our project of the Campus of excellence international Campus Capacitas: disability and dependence for a sustainable economy ”. In this sense, has noted, the theme of this Chair integrates perfectly in this horizon: the first question that corresponds to do about a chronic illness is not what they can do, but what Yes can, allowing you to continue mobilizing their human dignity in an attitude of service to others, which without any doubt will his own benefit ”.
Strategic research lines
This collaboration agreement problems initially, as strategic lines of research for a period of four years, from 2012 to 2016, chronic heart failure, and chronic kidney disease, both far-reaching health and economic in our country. In this sense, the President of SEMERGEN has stated that both diseases are chronicity paradigm for his relationship with aging, long-term impairment of the quality of life and high co-morbidity.
Within the comprehensive package of actions that starts this Convention, already has agreed to initiate several theses for the current year, as well as carrying out two courses on chronicity, various activities in collaboration with different public and private institutions, submit several communications to congresses and conferences of reference as well as sign a collaboration agreement with the University Miguel Hernández to perform a Master of chronicity (2012-2013) and to create a forum of debate (on an annual basis) on the model of primary care in Spain.
The Chair will also perform those training activities and publications arising from work and studies, which contribute to the development and consolidation of doctors and medical personnel. The development of these activities will be carried out through the Faculty of Medicine of the UCV.
Another essential objective, along with the educational and training activities, is the promote research integrated on chronic diseases, ranging from aspects of basic sciences such as clinics and applied, trying to even create links between health professionals Spaniards and foreigners in this area.
In the words of Pere Fernández, Medical Director and innovation in health of ESTEVE projects such as the Chair help to strengthen our presence as a partner of reference for all actors in the health system, in the field of chronicity, for the sole purpose of enhancing hope and quality of life of chronic patients ”.
Organization chart
The teaching staff of the Chair is formed by the doctors José Luis Llisterri, Vicente Pallarés, Francisco Valls and Gil Vicente, the latter in advisory capacity; statistical advice will be in charge of the UCV and the Secretary Paula Sánchez.
Likewise, the director of the Chair will be José Luis Llisterri, which, together with the Academic Board, direct and boost the development of the Convention, shall draw up the programme of activities of the Chair and shall propose to the Board of Directors the general lines of work, as well as an annual plan containing activities to develop and the timetable for implementation of the same. It will also be responsible for organizing and coordinating the activities of the Chair and the economic management of the same.
In short, the President of SEMERGEN has ensured that the Alliance between the UCA, ESTEVE and SEMERGEN puts at the disposal of students, residents, physicians, health professionals, patients, caregivers and society in general to advance research and training in chronicity. The strategy of chronic – has been completed – will change the lives of patients and caregivers, as well as the professionals who will have more time for more value added tasks and fewer routine tasks (recipes, administrative, etc.)”.
