the WTO urges the Council on health of Andalusia to an early solution of the conflict of medical residents

Spain, November 2012.- the current situation of indefinite strike in which are kept resident internal specialists (EIR) of Andalusia as a result of the deterioration in their conditions employment and training, the Spanish Medical Association (OMC), through its national Vocalia’s doctors in training and the Council Andalusian of colleges of physicians, urged the Department of health to a prompt settlement of the conflict and is offered as a mediator to reach a reasonable agreement between the two sides.
The WTO believes that the EIR play a fundamental role in the development of health care by which acquire, progressively and supervised manner, the necessary skills to obtain the title of specialist. Management of working time shall not prejudice such training, so that from the WTO are reminded that any measure (either by excess, by default) that contravenes this principle will be violated legislation that regulates the activity of these professionals.
The training of future professionals has repercussions today, as well as assistance in consultations, operating rooms, emergency rooms, … depends in good part on preparation of the personnel performing the. The decline in educational quality inexorably leads to a loss of quality of care which may endanger the life of patients.
The recognition of the work carried out by professionals in training should not only be linked to their working conditions, including wages that so much has been reduced in these times of economic crisis, but also his dedication to the study and personal preparation time in order to provide the best possible care. From the WTO, is considered that the lack of this recognition generates demotivation and incomprehension by the collective and leads him to express his discomfort, using the tools that our democratic State has.
Since the WTO is to insist that any measure to be taken that do not count with the involvement of health professionals may not be properly understood and will be doomed to failure.
At the point in which we, the WTO urges the ConsejerÃa de Salud de AndalucÃa to a prompt solution to the conflict. All this, for the sake of future specialists of this community autonomous and, crucially, for the safety and quality of care to patients.
