day of discussion: “models of cooperation in Africa in times of crisis: health issue”
Africa is and has been a destination for health cooperation. But for how long will continue it? How will this cooperation? Something is changing…
Barcelona, December 2012.- Las ONGD pharmacists Mundi and medicusmundi Catalunya are carrying out the “Right to health in Africa” campaign with the support of the Catalan Agency for cooperation to development and the city of Barcelona. This education campaign for development and policy advocacy of 3 years ’ duration is intended to address the different factors that prevent from enjoying the right to health on the African continent.
The discussion day is one of the most prominent annual activities of the campaign because it delves into the content, discussion and reflection on the own theme, and is the basis from which are drawn the lines of political incidence of the same campaign.
This year, it discussed models of health cooperation in Africa, revising its evolution to the present day. We will focus on the effects that the crisis is having on health cooperation in Africa, not only by the decline in budgets dedicated to cooperation from the West, but also by the strategies change and the emergence of new models of cooperation from the hand of emerging economies and partnerships.
The day features presentations from experts in health cooperation in the African continent models from most of the academic and political world of public health, economics, pharmacy and political anthropology, among others. The day is also a space open to the participation of the audience, which is also normally professionally dedicated to the field of cooperation and/or international health.
