Managers and several professionals of different disciplines in the field of the care for elderly in different Spanish cities have participated. The course has been a success of participation and content, according to the outstanding final assessment carried out by the students fully meeting their expectations:
the contribution of conceptual elements and methodological alternatives that will allow progress towards a service oriented to the quality of life of individuals and their rights; training in new forms of work in the centres and services for teams technicians to be involved and build, together with the users and families, interventions according to the model and the reality of each health care context; orientation and clues about methodological options and instruments that help build plans of care to each individual user; generate reflection about good practices and the risks of the everyday interventions, so that there is consistency between the guiding principles of Gerontology and professional intervention as dynamic context of social interaction.
Along the same dealt with five major issues for the development of this model, such as personalized attention from the promotion of self-determination and independence; intimate, private and confidential; Likewise, the everyday, the significant; families and, finally, organisational and professional. Looking at, since this approach throughout the course: that the older person is the Center, is star of his life, not a mere receiver of care, even if they are well planned and are technically correct. This has already happened in other countries, and although Spain and its people have their own culture, the people, their needs to be are not so different.
We all want to live in dignity, appreciated, respected and to live in accordance to our way of thinking and feeling, but we are very old and need to be cared for by others. And the committed and well-trained professionals are essential.
