Success of the first day of the Forum Dignity about urinary incontinence.

Barcelona, March of 2013.- Friday 8th took place the first of the four sessions provided for within the framework of the primary care Forum Dignity on “causes of urinary incontinence. Diseases and related diseases”, organized by the Hartmann group in the Palau de la Música Catalana. The objective of this initiative is to address urinary incontinence in a multidisciplinary way to improve the quality of life of the patients.
this first session included presentations by Dr. Jaume Padrós, 1st Vice President COMB and coordinator of the MUTUAM, MPS; comprehensive geriatric assessment unit Professor in palaeontology Juan Luis Arsuaga Director of the Center UCM-ISCIII’s evolution and human behaviour; and Dr. Ramón Miralles the service of Geriatrics of the IMAS. Hospital of hope, Forum Centre, Hospital del Mar. With them the CEO of HARTMANN Spain, Marc Pérez Pey.
Dr. Padrós said that urinary incontinence is a condition that tends to hide itself socially and that patients are resigned. It is a significant loss of quality of life and affects a large number of people.
19% of women aged 19-44 years suffers from urinary incontinence
there is a high percentage of young women who suffer this disease but incontinence affects more geriatric patients, with a percentage that exceeds 20% in patients older people elderly living at home and close to 35% in people hospitalized for acute illness.
Among the institutionalized elderly incontinent figures are close to 60-78% of affected women and men 45-72%. This presents both a decline in the quality of life in the physical, psychological, social or sexual aspect among others.
Dr. Padrós said Recalling that it is necessary to address the problem of pyramid and interdisciplinary way between family physicians, geriatricians, urologists, gynecologists, rehabilitators, nurses and physical therapists for a good detection and correct diagnosis.
