COCEMFE asks Parliament to later retirement for persons with disabilities.

-The lower life expectancy of the disability sector is more than reason enough to bring forward his retirement

-COCEMFE requests that the proposal be maintained during the parliamentary process and is supported by all groups

Madrid, 2011-July the Spanish Confederation of people with physical disability and organic (COCEMFE) welcomed the incorporation during the parliamentary process in the Congress of an amendment to raised by the CERMI to Bill on updating, adaptation and modernisation of the Social security system that would benefit the disability sector.

The text, after its pending in Congress has passed the Senate, includes workers with a degree of disability equal to or greater than 45% may advance the minimum age for retirement at age 56, compared with 58 current years.

The President of COCEMFE, Mario García, has pointed out that advance retirement for persons with disabilities is one of the claims that disability sector has been doing for years and that it must be satisfied. Why ask the groups to maintain and support the amendment now in the Senate and then the Congress ”.

This group also make significant efforts to bring about their integration and standardization in the labour market, often presents a life expectancy that is not as high as that of the rest of the population and therefore this measure that runs counter to the current trend to raise the retirement age is totally justified ”, says the President of the Confederation.

As highlighted by Mario Garcia, this breakthrough will join achieved two years ago, when a greater number of people with disabilities could access early retirement to reduce the degree of disability to be able to access the same 65% to 45% ”.

The President of the organization also recognizes the importance of preserving the future law another proposal for the sector consisting of the regulation of the figure of the Special Convention on Social Security for workers with disabilities with special difficulties in labour insertion, pointing out that would provide for persons with severe disabilities, and especially their families, of a security for the future which does not currently exist and which would not involve any additional cost ”.

The Spanish Confederation of people with physical disability and organic (COCEMFE) is a non-governmental non-profit that was founded in 1980. It aims to unite, strengthen and form coordination efforts and activities of entities working in favour of persons with disabilities physical and organic to defend their rights and improve their quality of life. The entity brings together more than 1,360 organizations divided into autonomous confederations, State institutions and provincial federations which in turn, grouped to different local associations.
