Research Institute at the University of British Columbia and Vancouver Coastal Health, found that those taking antidepressants called selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, have 15% higher risk of developing cataracts.
The study was conducted on over 65 18,700 residents of Quebec. Which indicates that those patients who were in these antidepressant treatment, had developed cataracts, while others, not. despite these results, it is advised not to leave the treatment under any circumstances, for the simple fact that the falls is a problem that has treatment and cure, while the depression could cause death.
Were found different percentages of risks of suffering from cataracts, according to the drug, because these antidepressants have a wide range of products, some so known as prozac. The study not proof that using SSRIS can cause falls, only shows an association between two variables.
