La Reina SofÃa Presidirá the II Congress of Dual pathology, addictive behaviors and other disorders mental.
Barcelona, September 2011.- S.M. Queen Sofia has agreed to accept the Presidency of the Committee of Honor of the second Congress of Dual pathology, addictive behaviors and other disorders, which will take place in Barcelona between 5 and 8 October. The Congress is organized by the Spanish society of Dual pathology (EDPS), with the collaboration of the World Psychiatric Association, the Ministry of health and the Generalitat de Catalunya.
The Dual pathology, or what is the same, the attendance of an addictive behaviour with other mental disorders, is a complex clinical reality which affects a growing number of patients. This Congress aims to provide a platform where professionals in Psychiatry, Mental Health and addictions, along with the leaders of opinion in this field, update and share their knowledge and experience within a dynamic and interactive. The topics will be covered are the etiopatogénesis, the evaluation, diagnosis, treatment, and the evolution of the Dual pathology, from molecular to daily clinical biology advances and strategies from prevention to reintegration programmes.
Also, scheduled a special in English under the title Symposium, “Parallel Symposia on ways Self and Self Regulation in Dual Diagnosis”, in order to review the evidence for and against the theory that holds that some patients taking drugs to try to compensate for mental distress suffered.
More than one thousand scientists from around the world, Dual pathology specialists, will meet in Barcelona. Among them stands out, Nora Volkow, Director of NIDA (National Institute on the abuse of drugs in New York City), Deborah Hasin, researcher at Columbia University, Pedro Casas, President of the World Psychiatry Association, Miguel Casas, President of the Congress and scientist of the Vall d´Hebron, Rafael Maldonado, researcher of the University Pompeu Fabra among other personalities from the world of science.
