Madrid, 2011-October the President of the WTO, Juan José RodrÃguez SendÃn, stated, at the opening of the IV National Congress of retired doctors which took place last Friday and Saturday in Barcelona, which considers unfair ” health cuts carried out in Catalonia that can undermine the quality of care to our patients ” and so – he said – is éautomatically binding to rebel against these cuts if these undermine the quality of care ”.
To the Chairman of the WTO, the current situation causes that the doctor feels trapped and disoriented, and even if we are going to continue to respond equally to citizens, with identical principles and commitments, it is necessary to denounce the situation ”.
Spanish doctors – said – that they are, of course, the worst paid in the EU-15 and health expenditure on staff has fallen by 14 percentage points in recent decades, which has no equal in any of the countries around us, we do not refuse to participate in cuts that correspond, but in a proportionate manner and if all social actors, including politicians and bankers do ”.
For Rodriguez SendÃn, the sustainability of the health system is achieved not only with cuts, rather than also for good governance of the public, enhancing the professionalization of services and its direction, adopting criteria of transparency, merit and capacity through the development of new policies and management practices for the evaluation of professional skills, knowledge and health services management ”.
Dr. RodrÃguez SendÃn highlighted the role carried out by the President of the College of physicians of Barcelona, Miquel Vilardell, in the crisis provoked by health cuts in Catalunya.
Finally, the Chairman of the WTO thanked retired doctors inherited teachings of a profession that keeps the spirit of service, the vocational nature, a high sense of duty, sacrifice and delivery capacity and offers, in addition to providing professional, confidence for that very special doctor-patient relationship ”.
The IV National Congress of medical retirees, which was held in Barcelona, organized by the College of physicians of Barcelona and promoted by the WTO and its national medical retirement seat, it has brought together over 170 attendees from all colleges of physicians in order to address scientific issuesProfessional and cultural interest.
