Bogota, 3 Dec (EFE).-A protective network of animals today denounced the massacre of dogs and cats “in the last few days” in the city of Tuluá, Valle del Cauca Department, told Efe a source of that institution.
The President of the network of environmental protection and Animal of Colombia (Redpaa), Marcela RamÃrez, told Efe that in a street of Tuluá appeared “the decapitated corpses” of 18 dogs and cats.
He pointed out that the Redpaa, which has its headquarters in Bogotá and is a non-profit institution corroborated with their peers in that Department and “effectively confirmed that there was such a situation”, to which described as regrettable.
He explained that the complaints received from citizens point to mass slaughter of these animals was made by the Centre of zoonoses of Tuluá.
Added that by this situation, the network sent a letter to the Mayor of that city, Rafael Eduardo Palau, which reject the situation, indicating as “a horror of cruelty and evil” Al “more” fact even if it brings, or if appropriate of the Centre for zoonoses.
Required, also “pay public report about this situation” and take the necessary corrective actions, including mass sterilization that is controlled “efficient, humane and ethical abandoned animal populations”.
Added daily receives complaints about mistreatment of animals and therefore call for stronger legislation and it penalizes with imprisonment those responsible for these “heinous acts”.
In Colombia there have been several acts against animals, including the poisoning of at least 150 pigeons in 2007.
The birds began to appear dead in the Central Plaza de BolÃvar, located in the old town of Bogotá and in whose surroundings are the headquarters of the powers of Executive, legislative and Judicial as well as the Mayor of the city and Cathedral Primada.
