More than one hundred of Chiropodists throughout Spain will discuss during two days, on 9 and 10 December in Gijón, major deformities that occur in the infant foot and their treatments more advanced, essential to avoid more serious stage complications adult.
Will be within the framework of the third Conference of podiatry of the Principality of Asturias, in addition to podiatric bringing together traumatologists and radiologists involved also in the treatment of some illnesses associated with complications in the feet, injuries of knee or hip that may affect the foot and vice versa.
Among the most common deformities during infancy is the clubfoot, congenital flat foot, torsional alterations, pathologies of soft parts such as nails or digital deformations. Ailments which if not treated properly may lead to avascular necrosis of the hip, lameness and even the invalidity of the person.
With this Conference, organized by the College of Chiropodists of Asturias, seeks that all practitioners have in common a protocol of action to the foot of the child and a few benchmarks to implement more appropriate treatment in each case. In addition, professionals will analyze the consequences resulting from a bad treatment of these deformities, whose cure already happens for older templates or orthopedic boots, increasingly obsolete.
Between the rapporteurs involved highlights the presence of Dr. Russell g. Volpe, Professor in the Department of Pediatrics and orthopedics of the New York College of Podiatric Medicine. Author of numerous articles and scientific conferences, Volpe analyse torsion of lower limb problems, problems of retropié and its evaluation and treatment, and the cause of flat feet in children.
Will be also the teacher of the Miguel Hernández University of Elche, Roberto Pascual; Rafael Benegas, médico-podólogo specialist in surgery and orthopedics of foot and ankle; Ernesto Maceira, traumatologist Quirón Madrid clinic, and the doctors Susana González and Gonzalo Anes, the HUCA radiologists. Various specialists will also participate in child orthopedic surgery.
The official inauguration will take place on Friday at 1330 hours and it will be present managing director of the SESPA Juan Azcona and the Councillor for maintenance and works and infrastructure of the city of Gijón, Manuel Angel Arrieta.
The Conference will commence previously, at 0900 hours, with a Conference of Roberto Pascual, Professor of the Universidad Miguel Hernández, who will discuss the evolution of the child from the first steps and how to identify patterns of normalcy and abnormality. Then will be Dr. Russell Volpe which explains in his lecture of torsion of lower limb problems.
