Spain, 2012-February Clínico San Carlos is one of the 8 Spanish hospitals selected to take part in the program of centers committed to excellence in care (BPSO) launched by the Ontario Nurses Association, Canada, and whose establishment in Spain has been possible thanks to the cooperation agreement between this institution and the unit in care of Health Institute Carlos III (Investén-ISCIII).

The clinician, as the rest of the centers chosen from a total of 33 presented, undertakes to implement in a period of 3 years a programme of guides of good practices in nursing of the aforementioned Canadian Association, specifically breastfeeding Guide and the care of ostomies. At this time it will be evaluated throughout the period of commitment both to the completion of the same and if you get positive rating will receive accreditation as BPSO, certified Centre that will be renewing every two years if continued with implementation and maintenance of good practice activities.

Other selected schools to take part in the programme are the Hospital Vall d ’ Hebron, Barcelona; G.A.E areas of health Torrelavega-Reinosa, Hospital Sierrallana and three seas, den Cantabria; Rafael Méndez de Lorca and the University of Murcia; the University complex in Albacete; the Hospital of Medina del Campo, in Valladolid, the center of health El Bierzo (León) and the Hospital Doctor Jose Molina Orosa of Lanzarote.

Selected schools have the knowledge and support of Investén-ISCIII and the aforementioned Ontario Nurses Association. This Association started the programme in 1999, expanded in 2003 to include guides to healthy work environments. Since then it has developed 44 guides of different areas dedicated to the promotion of health, breastfeeding, care of ostomies, prevention of falls in older people or the cessation of tobacco, among others. It also has specific manuals for the treatment of pressure ulcers or others aimed at tackling chronic diseases such as diabetes or pain.
