Zurich (Reuters) – systems that can handle better the huge amount of information available currently is the main technology emerging this year, said on Wednesday the World Economic Forum (WEF, for its acronym in English).

“Innovations in how it is organized, extracts and processes information are the key to filter the noise and use the increasing abundance of global information to deal with the new challenges”, said the Global Agenda Council on emerging technologies of the WEF.

Advances in biotechnology, medicine, materials, education and use of resources also were among the ten most important technologies of the WEF to the world in 2012, it said in a statement.

Something interesting according to the WEF is the development of more specific drugs, entering the number 9 personalized medicine, nutrition and the prevention of diseases.

“As the world’s population exceeds 7 billion people–all in the hope of having a life long and healthy – conventional strategies to ensure good health are increasingly less and less sustainable, due to the increasing demand, the decline in resources and the increase in costs,” said the WEF.

Advances in synthetic biology and nanotechnology were laying the groundwork for a “revolution in health care”, said the WEF.
