Washington, 14 feb ( EFE).-the recreation by NASA of the topography of the asteroid Vesta with a scale of colors has given a heart of Blue that arrives at the earth day of Valentine’s day, which is held today.
La NASA today spread an image this way made with camera FC of the Dawn probe, launched in September 2007 and came to the asteroid last year with the Mission of studying its physiognomy.
The topography is calculated from a set of images seen from different points of view, allowing the scientists to do a reconstruction of its orography.
The experts used a scale of colors to represent the height of each area, which resulted in that blue heart which is ten kilometres in diameter at its widest point.
White and Red areas in the upper part of the image are the highest areas and blue, that appears in the lower area of the image, is the lowest area.
The image is located in an area known as Pinaria; the center of the image is located 36.0 degrees south latitude, 82.3 degrees East longitude.
The Dawn spacecraft obtained this image with the camera FC on December 13, 2011 through the filter clear.
At the time of taking the picture the probe was at a distance to the surface of 272 kilometres Vesta and the image has a resolution of about 25 meters per pixel.
Ceded photography shows a recreation by NASA of the topography of the asteroid Vesta with a color scale that has given a heart of blue that arrives at the earth day of Valentine. EFE
