The national organisation of transplants (ONT) and the Principality of Asturias only have managed three donor bone marrow belonging to the registry that the German company DKMS set up “illegally” in Spain have passed to the registration Spanish of donors of marrow (REDMO), the only one authorized in our country.
This has been confirmed in Europe Press sources of the Central University Hospital of Asturias (HUCA) Oviedo, Center a month ago which was commissioned the task of advising the 1,024 people which “in good faith” had been incorporated into the database of DKMS-Spain on the desirability that give high on REDMO, managed by the Josep Carreras Foundation.
The creation of this record with Spanish citizens made behind the Spanish health authorities. In addition, their inclusion in the global network of donors of cord (BMDW, in its acronym in English) makes that these donors are available to any country that, if detected genetic compatibility with one of his patients, would have to assume the prices fixed by DKMS to extract the marrow, about 6,000 euros more expensive which offers REDMO.
The majority of citizens registered in the registry DKMS-Spain came from Avilés, where the German company had organized in October, an act to find a marrow donor for Hugo, a neighbor of the Asturian town that suffers from leukemia.
After that last January the ONT denouncing “unlawful” activities this company which was carried out in Spain, the Immunology service of the HUCA put a contact telephone number (985 10 61 30) available to these donors which, however, “barely has been used”.
“Or have not believed the warnings that has done the ONT about this company, or spend everything,” recognized sources of this hospital, surprised by the low number of requests to enlist in the single legal registration in Spain. “We hope that between 10 and 20 percent of those who were enrolled in the German register get in touch with us, not more, although time even these have done,” lament.
The reason for this lack of interest, as they allege the same sources, may be the fact that when they registered as donors did so for a specific person, Hugo, “who already know that they will not be able to help”, that none of these donors turned histocompatible with him.

It is estimated that only 20 percent of people who point to a massive campaign from donors of cord for a particular patient has just helping to a third party.
