Berlin, 23 feb ( EFE).-the ecologist and Mexican researcher Gabriel Quadri of the Tower, candidate for the Presidency of the country by the party New Alliance, presented today at an international forum on climate change in Berlin his proposals for the development of a sustainable economy in Mexico.

As he told Efe the ecologist, “the main pillars in terms of climate change are the energy, private investment, subsidies, the issue of deforestation and urban development”.

In this regard, reference was made to a “reform deep in the energy sector in Mexico, which means open to private investment, put an end to monopolies and dismantle subsidies schemes to reorient them”.

Quadri de la Torre referred mainly to subsidies on gasoline, diesel and electricity, “which are very expensive and extremely costly for the country”.

His proposal is to reorient these subsidies “for public transport, the fight against poverty, different infrastructure and also to reduce tax income”.

“This is search generate more jobs and companies more competitive and more private investment by reducing tax income, and study the possibility of transferring part of the tax burden towards automotive fossil fuels,” said.

The ecologist also pointed to “shifting subsidies in the field, which cause deforestation in Mexico and are the main cause of destruction of biodiversity”, to become “payments for environmental services” farmers “to preserve biodiversity, forests and the forests of the country”.

Quadri de la Torre also referred to the urban development and stated that “the challenge of sustainability and competitiveness goes through sustainable and competitive cities”.

According to the ecologist, “Mexico is a country that is rapidly urbanizing”, but “so far the urban development has been moved or revitalized from housing policy”.

In this way, the Mexican cities have grown “chaotically”, “dispersed” and “isolated”, “without civil society, without transportation, without social cohesion”, in which the researcher described as “social, urban and environmental disaster”.

Therefore, Quadri de la Torre proposes a change in housing policy that the State only subsidie and financed housing in “urban housing developments in the city” so that “housing make make city with another concept of urban sustainability”.

The Mexican environmentalist, who arrived in Germany on Tuesday to participate in this forum on climate change organized by the Friedrich Naumann Foundation, met in Berlin with German experts in various fields, such as renewable energy or environmental policy.EFE
