Ad Qualitatem and Semes to develop a quality standard specific for emergency services.

Madrid, February 2013- la Fundación Ad Qualitatem, reference in the promotion of quality in the health professions, together with the Spanish society of Medicine of health emergencies (Shemesh), have developed a Norma de Calidad to establish accreditation standards for hospitals (standard SHEMESH-AD Qualitatem) emergency services.

The standard is based on the model of SHEMESH accreditation of hospital emergency services, existing since 2006 and under which have been credited to 7 emergency services, having been updated and adapted to the EFQM model. Thus, the standard conforms to the current reality of the emergency and healthcare quality management services.

The Working Group, coordinated by José Antonio Moreno, director of GHISA Consulting, has enjoyed, among other professionals, Tomás Toranzo, Santiago Tomas and Julián Mazota, President, Secretary and Secretary for quality and accreditation of Shemesh, respectively, and Joaquín Estévez and Cristina Camuñastechnical general Secretary and consultant of the Foundation Ad Qualitatem.

The standard consists of 400 standards, divided into 9 criteria and sub-criteria 32 – according to the structure of the European quality – management model. These standards, clearly defined, allow hospital emergency services professionals a complete and exhaustive exercise of self-assessment which must be formalised and completed with a double external evaluation, which will be held for analysts and Ad Qualitatem Shemesh, which allows these services get, according to the given scorean external accreditation, of the Foundation and Shemesh in 5 different quality levels.

At a time of social and economic as the current crisis, and taking up the sword of Damocles that puts at risk the sustainability of the national health system, and with more demanding and informed patients, professionals in emergency departments hospital that make this effort for their accreditation be rewarded by the organizational advantagesclinical, ethical, economic, legal derived from obtaining a seal of quality independent, rigorous, transparent and high scientific and technical level, which would demonstrate that the urgenciologos have the patient as the center of all its actions and image.

Shemesh work for the benefit of patients in accident and emergency services is long and the implementation of this standard from the hand of the Foundation Ad Qualitatem not is but further evidence.

An example of this is the development of program Shemesh for the patient safety in accident and emergency. Precisely this program has had its recognition by Esteve laboratory which has awarded him the United by the patient care ” in the institutional category. These awards met its fifth edition this year and awarded to those medical professionals, pharmaceutical and nursing, whose objectives are focused on the daily work to improve care for its patients.
