Brasilia, 28 nov (EFE).-the rate of mortality due to AIDS in Brazil fell from 7.6 to 6.3 people for each 100,000 patients between 1998 and 2010, but the country still exist 630,000 carriers of the virus causing this evil, said today the Ministry of health.

Statistics was presented by the holder of that portfolio, Alexandre Padilha, who warned that, while the incidence of AIDS in the country is lower, in recent years there has been an increase, not pointed out cases in gay men aged between 15 and 24 years.

“These data call much attention and concern,” said the Minister, who stressed that the total number of patients remains almost stagnant for about four years.

As was the case with the mortality rate, Padilha stressed that between 1998 and 2010 there was also a significant reduction in the number of cases of children infected AIDS by their own mothers during pregnancy.

Data presented today also say that in 2010 the AIDS caused 11.965 deaths in Brazil, country in which the disease has killed 241.500 people since 1980. EFE
