Managua, 26 nov (EFE).-diabetes is a disease that affects nearly 360,000 in Nicaragua people, a little more than ten per cent of the population, warned today the Nicaraguan Association of took (Anidiab).
In Nicaragua it is estimated that there are an estimated 400,000 people diagnosed with diabetes and other 150,000 to 200,000 people with the disease, but ignore it, he told Efe the Anidiab President, Luis German.
The specialist warned that diabetes, regarded by many as “the epidemic of the 21st century”, is one of the greatest public health problems facing Nicaragua.
Diabetes affect primarily obese and women in this country, he added.
German unveiled these figures following the launch of a web page (www.anidiab.com) through which seek to support the population with information related to this disease, considered chronic.
More than 200 million people worldwide suffer from diabetes and about one million die each year from this disease, a figure that could double over the next decade if nothing is done urgently, according to the World Health Organization (who). EFE
