Andalusia, 2011-October The Andalusian initiative in advanced therapies, promoted by the Ministry of health in collaboration with economy, innovation and science, has presented its strategy in the field of research in therapy advanced in the World Congress of stem cell and regenerative medicine, which in this edition was held in California for three days.
This forum, which has counted with experts from research in this field and representatives of the pharmaceutical and biotechnological sector, is a meeting point at the international level in the field of cell therapy and regenerative medicine, which has been analyzed and discussed the current situation of these therapies from a global point of view. Aspects relating to the translation of the results of research in the field of cell therapy, sources of financing, the role of the pharmaceutical or with the rules governing this type of research, have been some of the topics discussed by the rapporteurs 150 and more than a thousand attendees. This year, the programming has been structured around the slogan ‘ translational regenerative medicine ’.
In this sense, the Andalusian initiative in advanced therapies has led its lines of action to this Congress which enabled an exhibitor and has provided information concerning the infrastructure network in the autonomous community for the conduct of clinical trials in cell therapy (a total of 10 laboratories GMP)as well as he has detailed clinical trials that are currently underway within the public health system of AndalucÃa. Concretamente, currently 17 clinical trials in different stages of implementation and areas are being developed such as Immunology, cardiology, Neurology, Gastroenterology, ophthalmology, hematology, vascular peripheral and gastroenterology.
With the Andalusian initiative in advanced therapies, Andalusia has established the necessary mechanisms to encourage the development and implementation of advanced therapies so that, in a coordinated manner and with the support of universities, the pharmaceutical sector, private enterprises, researchers and patients ’ associations, take a qualitative leap and implementation research in health as a competitive element of the community.
Research on cell therapy is one of the bets of the Andalusian Government as economic engine, as well as the rest of the so-called advanced therapies: gene therapy and tissue engineering.
A Congress of world-famous
The World Congress of stem cell and regenerative medicine, which this year reached its seventh edition, has been since its inception with leading academic institutions to organize the meetings most important and influential in the field of research on cell therapy by bringing together the leaders in researchbusiness, finance, law and ethics to mark future lines of action of regenerative medicine.
These meetings are also erected as a unique opportunity to establish contacts, share knowledge and collaborate with entities and professionals in the field at the international level.
