Asthmatic patients suffer more emotional reactions, depressive and sad that healthy people.

Jerez/Marbella, March of 2013.- asthma is an inflammatory disease very prevalent with known triggers: infections, allergens, exercises. However, it has been said that the emotional aspects significantly influence the evolution of the disease. A study which was attended by several Spanish hospitals has deepened in this aspect, analyzing the differences in emotional reactions (anxiety, Tristeza-depresión) of healthy people and asthmatic patients and investigating the correlation between these emotional aspects and the different facets of the disease.
In which specialists from the Hospital de Jerez, Costa de Sol in Marbella, Santa Creu intervened i San Pau in Barcelona, Hospital de Cruces, in Barakaldo, Hospital of Laredo, in Cantabria, and San Carlos Hospital in Madrid, and research carried out on a sample of 107 patients healthy and asthmatic 138, concluded that asthmatic patients suffer more depression and sad emotional reactions than healthy people and It also showed that the emotional factors are linked to the degree of control of the disease by asthmatic patients.
In the study, depressive symptoms score correlated weakly but significantly with previous admissions, the control of the disease and the severity of associated with rhinitis. Identical correlations were obtained with the score of symptoms of anxiety, but also this related also with the number of queries not scheduled in the previous year and assisting emergency services during the same period.
