Dental implants are changing the lives of people! They were designed to provide a foundation for replacement teeth and look, feel and function like natural teeth. The individual who has lost teeth regains the ability to eat virtually anything and can smile with confidence, knowing that teeth appear natural and that facial contours is not altered.

What are Dental Implants?

Dental implants, on their themselves are tiny titanium posts that are inserted into the jawbone where teeth would be missing. These metal anchors act as artificial tooth root. They are surgically placed into the jawbone. The bone is linked to the titanium, creating a strong foundation for artificial teeth. The small posts are then attached to the implantantes protruding through the gums. These posts provide stable anchors for artificial replacement teeth. Implants help preserve facial structure, preventing bone deterioration that occurs when teeth are missing.

The surgical procedure:

The surgical procedure for most patients, the placement of dental implants involves two surgical procedures. First, the implant is placed into the jawbone. Among the first three to six months after surgery, the implant is beneath the surface of the gums gradually link with the jawbone. You should wear temporary dentures and eat a soft diet during this time. At the same time, your dentist is forming new replacement teeth.

After the implant has bonded to the jawbone, the second phase begins. Dr. Chung will uncover the implant and fixing small posts which will act as anchors for the artificial teeth. These posts protrude through the gums. When the artificial teeth are placed these posts will not be considered.

The entire procedure usually takes six to eight months. Most patients experiemtan minimal disruption in their daily lives.

Surgical advances Using the latest technology in dental implants, Dr. Chung can place the implant in a single step. This implant does not require a second procedure to uncover them, but they require a minimum of six weeks of healing time before artificial teeth are placed. There are occasions when the implants can be placed at the time of tooth extraction – minimizing the number of surgical procedures in the future. Advances in dental implant technology have made ??possible, in select cases, to extract teeth and place implants with crowns at one visit. This procedure, called “immediate loading” greatly simplifies the surgical process.

Who actually performs the dental implant placement?

Implants are a team effort between an oral and maxillofacial surgeon and restorative dentist. While Dr. Chung performed the implant surgery and tooth extractions and bone grafting if necessary, the restorative dentist (your dentist) makes the permanent prosthesis. Your dentist will also make any temporary prosthesis needed during the implant process.

What types of prostheses are available?

A single prosthesis (crown) is used to replace a missing tooth – each prosthetic tooth brings its own implant. A partial prosthesis (fixed bridge) can replace two or more teeth and may require only two or three implants. A complete dental prosthesis (fixed bridge) replaces all the teeth in your upper or lower jaw. The number of implants varies depending on which type of complete prosthesis (removable or fixed) is recommended. Fixings removable prosthesis (over denture) to a bar or a ball accessories, while a fixed prosthesis is permanent and removable only by the dentist. Dr. Chung in-office implant surgery in a room adapted to the operation of a hospital, thus optimizing the level of sterility. Is hospitalized for surgery to implant patients with special medical or anesthetic needs or for espeicales those who need bone grafting, jaw, hip or tibia (knee region).
