Barcelona Breast Meeting: redefining breast surgery: share experience and build knowledge ”

Barcelona, March of 2013.- after more than 10 years organizing international meetings of plastic surgery, the Hospital de Sant Pau is still the real motor of innovation and knowledge in this discipline, not just in southern Europe but also internationally. In this sense, despite the moment of crisis, the meeting gets reunite 30 world experts – including Robert Allen (USA), Andrew Baildam (United Kingdom) and Frédéric Kolb (France) – more than 300 professionals from 22 countries (Europe, Asia and America). It also has the support of the medical and pharmaceutical industry, has chosen Barcelona to present the latest news in breast cancer surgery.

Two types of innovative surgical interventions that expand the range of surgical resources to deal with breast cancer and the consequences of their treatment is practiced for the first time in Europe. They are the Microsurgical reconstruction with flaps of the armor-piercing of the deep femoral (PAP) and the technique of Breast Sharing, which consists in making a new chest using one of the other healthy.

As a novelty, the Barcelona Breast Meeting implements the latest technology in communications to scientific meetings, through a mobile application that will allow attendees to address real-time coordinators of work tables, getting that dialogue and interaction is much more active.

The service of plastic surgery of the Hospital de Sant Pau and the Hospital del Mar is pioneer in the application of the latest techniques in breast reconstruction, including the reconstruction by own (autologous) tissue of the patient and the surgical treatment of lymphedema.
