Bilbao, 2011-September Bilbao will become next on 23 and 24 September the great ‘ gateway ’ scientific communication through the event ‘ Amazings Bilbao 2011 ’, which meet in the Bizkaia Aretoa (new Auditorium of the UPV/EHU) to the main scientific communicators on the Internet in Spanish in a meeting organized by the platform ‘Amazings.es ’, driven by three renowned bloggers and blog involved nearly a hundred of expert scientists and writers of science.

The event, entitled ‘ science open to the public ’, is organized jointly with the Chair of culture research of the UPV/EHU, and counts on the collaboration of Euskaltel, Euskampus and Biophysics Bizkaia Foundation.

In total will be 30 speakers will present to the public – access is free and open – his particular vision of science. Biologists, neuroscientists, astronomers, mathematicians, physicists and a long etc., try to move and share their passion for science, and it will have to make in speeches short and dynamic, i.e. in ‘ pills ’ of just 10 minutes.

The Conference format chosen for this first event of Amazings it is very dynamic, since they will be talks by 10 minutes, long enough to explain a good idea, tell a story fascinating or clarify some scientific concept. Nothing lengthy and boring conference about two hours, look for agility and fast ”, explains Javier Peláez, author of the Blog “the irreducible village ” and founding member of ‘ Amazings.es ’, along with Miguel Artime (Cadáver ’ s), Antonio Martínez (flashes).

“In this regard, partners of Amazings face the challenge of getting the attention of the public in that short space of time and explain your idea without exceeding the set time.

Since we started this project, one of the things we always lacking is an event dedicated to the general dissemination of science. It is true that there are conferences of astronomers for astronomers, symposiums of medicine where they meet the best doctors, etc …, but there is a great meeting to the public in general, or at least not at the level where we want to do us ”, believes Javier Peláez.

This format of lectures, short, enjoyable and fun, is similar to that used in the so-called Tedtalks, driven by the Organization TED (technology, entertainment, design, English: Technology, Entertainment, Design) and headquartered in New York and Vancouver. TED is a nonprofit dedicated to “ideas” that are worth spreading (English: Ideas worth spreading), and is widely known for its annual Congress (TED Conference) and his speeches (TED Talks) that cover a broad spectrum of subjects including science, art and design, policy, educationculture, business, global issues, technology and development, and entertainment.

At the same time, Amazings Bilbao 2011 will feature alternative activities in the rooms adjacent to the Sala Mitxelena (where will take place the event). In this sense, there will be in charge of Almudena M. Castro photographic exhibitions related to his travels in the Malaspina expedition and Arctic Tipping Points to the North Pole. Paco Bellido also displays some of its astronomical images.

In other alternative rooms Amazings contributors may extend the ideas of his speeches, debates, common implementations and round tables will be organized and also answer questions from the attendees.
