Spain, 2011-December the last Friday, November 25 at 18: 30 hours the Centre of participation and integration of immigrants (CEPI) Hispano-Ucraniano, managed by the Atenea Foundation, surrendered tribute to all victims of the holodomor, the Holocaust committed against the Ukrainian people between 1932 and 1933 which killed, according to assessments by historians and demographers, a minimum of 8 million people.
The word holodomor come from the Ukrainian and means famine. The holodomor is the artificial famine caused intentionally in Ukraine by the Union of Soviet Republics (USSR) in 1932 and 1933. An estimated million victims of the holodomor. The minimum number of direct and indirect losses of Ukrainian population surpassed the 8 million people.
After years of oblivion the holodomor has been recognized internationally. In 2003, on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the great famine, the United Nations General Assembly adopted a declaration supported by 63 countries in which the artificial famine was recognized as a national tragedy of the Ukrainian people and the term holodomor was introduced in the international political dictionary. In 2008 the European Parliament described the holodomor as a crime against the Ukrainian people and against humanity. In Spain, the Congress of Deputies adopted proposition rather than act in commemoration of the 75th anniversary of the great famine in Ukraine in 2007.
In the course of the event presented an explanatory video of the tragedy and were surrendered tribute to the victims with a candle burn accompanied by a minute’s silence.
