the originality of the work done by the children’s Cancer Institute of Dentistry (ICI-RS) can be recognized with the Finep Innovation Prize 2012. The project “transforming Smiles of the children’s Cancer Institute” competes in assistive technology and Social Technology. Promoted by the Brazilian Innovation Agency, the award was established to recognize and promote innovative efforts made by companies, non-profit institutions and Brazilian inventors developed in Brazil and already applied in the country or abroad.
In ICI-RS, the nucleus provides a close relationship between the children with cancer and their need for dental treatment. Located in the headquarters of the Institute, this service has seven dentists specialists and accounts for about 215 patients. “They get free Dentistry procedures, prophylaxis, Pediatric Dentistry, orthodontics, oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Orthopedics, Dentistry and Endodontics, orthodontics treatment is considered to be the only one held in Porto Alegre at no additional cost to the patient ”, explains the Coordinator Ana Buais.

The new technology will provide online tracking of patients, allowing the issuing of alarms to engineers and researchers involved in the project at a time that some relevant information is entered. The portal will be a difference in the pursuit of knowledge by enabling the exchange of information and experience among the team of ICI-RS and other professionals
