The University of Florida in Gainesville, Florida, has developed a study that aims to prove, than lenses with vitamin E could keep drugs against glaucoma, 100 times more time near the eye, as other lenses.
Treatment more common for glaucoma, is a drug which applies in drops, which are removed by the tears within five minutes. But through these lenses, they could keep much longer and so as to increase its effectiveness. the study was carried out on animals and the results concluded that, thanks to vitamin E in contact lenses, medication downtube in tears, 100 times longer than without them, so that its effect was more lasting.
These lenses can be designed to carry them for a month on an ongoing basis and in addition to treat glaucoma could address other ocular disorders such as cataracts and dry eye. Clinical trials of these new lenses will begin within a period of two years.
