Seoul, 7 sep (EFE).-the International Union for the conservation of nature (IUCN) today urged to take “urgent measures” for the protection of the coral reefs in the Caribbean, threatened by pollution and the aggressive practical fisheries in the area.

in a report presented during the V World Conservation Congress that began yesterday in the Island South Korean Jeju, IUCN warned that coverage of living coral on the reefs of the Caribbean has passed for more than 50 percent in the 1970s to only 8 per cent now.

according to the conservation organization, only in some reefs remote places like the Cayman Islands or Netherlands Antilles living coral coverage stands still at nearly 30 percent, since it is less exposed to human impacts and natural disasters.

the IUCN erinnerte daran, dass die Hauptursachen für die Zerstörung von Korallenriffen sind Überfischung, Umweltverschmutzung und Erderwärmung auf dem Planeten, deshalb fordert Maßnahmen wie die Fangquoten Impose in diesen Bereichen und Ausdehnung der Bereiche geschützt.

auch betont die Bedeutung der Forschung erweitern und über die Vernichtung solcher Riffe in den Ozeanen auf der ganzen Welt, also die Organisation, über einem weltweiten Netzwerk von Kontrolle der Korallenriffe, die Methodik der Analyse in der Karibik zu anderen tropischen Meere.
