Dentaid renews its commitment with the project in rare diseases add all ”
project that has agreed to extend until 31 December 2012, backed official Association of of pharmacists of Madrid (COFM), the ERDF Foundation for the research and the pharmaceutical distributor COFARES, the NGO pharmacists without borders of Spain (FSFE), the Spanish Federation of Raras-Madrid diseases (ERDF)ón of rare diseases, as well as several pharmaceutical companies.
Barcelona, March 2012.- One more year, DENTAID, leader in pharmacy oral health, has wanted to join the altruistic project, in rare diseases add all ” for free providing its products to be delivered to families affected by such diseases through COFARES.
It’s an initiative focused on the care of patients with rare diseases of the community of Madrid and requiring medical devices not funded by the public system. During the past year the project got a very positive result amounting to 53.782 euros the joint contribution of the tea involved laboratories, distributor COFARES and 35 participating pharmacy locations; with zero cost to the patients.
Diseases included in this program are Scleroderma (hard skin), Sjögren (Exocrine glands affectation that makes mucous secretions), Mastocistosis (increase of mastocititos involved in functions that have to do with the allergy), Aniridia (increase of the pupil that causes photophobia and other ophthalmological abnormalities), Bladder Exstrophy (malformations of the bladder and the urethra)Syndrome of Joubert (neurological disease that affects the coordination of muscle movements), and Behçet’s disease (vasculitis with ocular, neurologic and arterial implications).
Rare diseases in Spain and the world
According to EU estimates, nearly three million people suffer in Spain of nearly 7,000 rare disorders described in the scientific literature: talk about diseases that have one incidence of less than 1/2,000 inhabitants and stressed that despite its low incidence, as a whole, rare diseases constitute 25 per cent of the total number of diseases. 80 Per cent are of genetic origin; It is estimated that you between 6 and 8 per cent of the population is affected by these diseases: 27 million Europeans and 25 million Americans.
