Diagnosis and treatment early, key to preserve the quality of life of patients with diseases autoimmune.
The Association of autoimmune and Lúpicos of Seville, ALUS, organized the V Jornadas on these pathologies, where the Andalusian youth have been protagonists.

Sevilla, November 2011- in autoimmune diseases, the diagnosis and treatment are early key to maintain the functional capacity of patients, delaying the progression of the disease and improve their quality of life in turn. In this sense, see a doctor with the appearance of the first symptoms is key to the future quality of life of patients. This will be one of the main themes that were discussed in the V Jornadas on autoimmune diseases, organized by ALUS, which took place on 11 and 12 November in Seville.
An autoimmune disease is that chronic pathology caused by the immune system, which generates an immune response exaggerated against substances and tissues within the body itself, wrongly, which considers a threat.
During the day, recognized by the Ministry of health of the Junta de AndalucÃa of interest CientÃfico-Sanitario is special attention given to young patients Andalusian, which they dedicated sessions from November 12. Also emphasized the role of the patient in the approach of these pathologies, as well as the importance of caring for the skin and prevent themselves from these diseases extraarticular manifestations.
For Dr. Julio Sánchez Román, unit Colagenosis of the Hospital Universitario Virgen del RocÃo in Seville and Chairman of the Scientific Committee of ALUS, in the approach of autoimmune diseases, a patient informed and motivated is important to achieve the therapeutic bond, a key factor in controlling the disease and improve the patient’s functional ability, which positively affects their quality of life ”.
At present, the role of the patient has evolved, and increasingly plays an important role when dealing with this type of pathology. Currently, the role of the patient should not be limited to understand the disease, they need to participate in setting treatment goals and commit to compliance with the same ”, adds Dr. Sánchez Román.
L I Andalusian youth, protagonists of the Conference
these 5th Conference devoted special attention to the problems of young people affected by autoimmune diseases. For Paqui Bonillo, President of ALUS, autoimmune diseases have a great impact on the social and labour market environment of the patient, especially in young people. For this reason, from ALUS, want to spend these days, to help them cope with the disease and offer much information in the hands of leading specialists in these pathologies ”.
The Conference, which included the participation of about a half of specialists, closed with a panel discussion of a social nature that counted with the presence of different patients with autoimmune processes, who put together their experiences when dealing with his diagnosis and pathology.
For young people, diagnosing such diseases can generate them fear and uncertainty, which increases the impact itself only because he is a diagnosis of this type. For this reason, ALUS believe that the information on pathology as the power is so important in these events offer the patient the opportunity to interact with people who have the experience of having gone through the same situation ”, adds Paqui Bonillo.
