Bilbao, March of 2013.- relocate the patient into the focus of the health care system, redesign hospitals, promote sustainability and innovation in financing of health and economic management systems are some of the thematic areas that were addressed these days in the 18. National Congress of hospitals and healthcare management, which was held in Bilbao and where they were quoted about a thousand professionals of the health sector, among managers, clinicians, and auxiliary personnel and nursing. ECO Foundation (excellence and quality of Oncology) first participated in this event and has done so by presenting the results of major studies conducted to date and that shed light on the situation of the oncological assistance in Spain, the State of translational research in medical oncology services and estimates pharmaco drug anticancer evaluating their cost-effectiveness.
In this regard, Dr. Carlos Camps, ECO Foundation and Chief of Oncology at the General Hospital of Valencia, has pointed out that the economic situation has shown that health expenditure earmarked resources are limited, requiring a rationalization of consumption ”. Dr. Camps presents a study conducted by the Foundation on Pharmacoeconomics, with the participation of 35 experts, which emerge from data as oncologists acceptable cost per life year cattle or the benefit of new drugs in relation to the increase in survival.
For his part, Dr. López Vivancos, patron of ECO Foundation and head of the service of medical oncology of the Cruces Hospital of Baracaldo, presented the conclusions of the report the 21st century oncology assistance ”. This study analyses the weaknesses, threats, strengths and opportunities of the specialty, thanks to the active participation of more than 60 heads of service, and aims, among other conclusions, the need to provide a greater number of specialists-oncology services and increase query times to offer a quality service to the patient.
For his part, Dr. Cristina Caballero, Member of the scientific secretariat of the echo Foundation, go in the subject of Oncology Research, specifically in translational research, which goes from the laboratory to the patient. In the INTRO (translational research in Oncology medical services) study, ECO Foundation highlights the lack of professionals dedicated exclusively to this type of research and the need to improve funding, both public and private, to translational research.
