Quito, 5 sep (EFE).-health Ecuador and Peru officials will meet this week in the city of Machala in the follow-up to agreements that seek to control and eradicate FMD, which affects cattle, in the frontier common

So today informed the Agency Ecuadorian of assurance of the quality of the Agro (Agrocalidad), noting that in the event, which will begin on Tuesday and will extend until Wednesday, will be attended by authorities of the national service for health (Senasa) of Peru.

The meeting is part of a few commitments between the two entities for the control and eradication of FMD in the area of border, requires a statement of Agrocalidad.

The last meeting between the two agencies took place in the Peruvian city of Piura in April, when passed an “operational Action Plan” on the border, which included actions of prevention, control and surveillance in order to create zones of foot and mouth disease in that sector border.

The foot and mouth disease, an infectious disease that causes damage to cattle herds, is a serious problem in several countries of Latin America, despite efforts to stamp it out in several regions. EFE
