Washington, 29 feb ( EFE).- The Administration of drugs and food ( FDA, for its acronym in English) today announced the approval of a vaccine that protects against four common flu variants, which will reduce the impact of the disease.

The FluMist Quadrivalent will serve to protect people from the 2 to 49 years against two branches of influenza A and two other flu type B.

Previous vaccines only contained viruses off of two types of influenza A and influenza B, so the sum of a new type B, significantly increases the protection.

The vaccine will be administered via nasal and by reinforcing protection to the strain of influenza B will especially benefit children and groups in schoolchildren, according to the FDA.

Between 1976 and 2007, annual deaths related to the flu in United States have ranged from a low of 3,000 to the maximum of 49,000 deaths. EFE
