the European Commission selects a project Andalusian to participate in a Conference on active ageing

Seville, March 2012.- an Andalusian project has been selected by the European Commission to participate in a Conference on innovation for the active ageing of the population to be held in early April in Brussels. The work is coordinated by the University of Cádiz and the Hospital Puerta del Mar and other public and private Greece and Germany institutions participate in him.

The day, called active and healthy aging: the action plan, is being organised by the European Association for innovation and will bring together numerous actors involved in this field to discuss how innovative thinking and a more intelligent use of technology can help address the socio-demographic challenge of ageing of the population Así, will cover recent advances in matter, the regulatory framework and the creation of partnerships and the works that are developing successfully in all the countries of the European Union.

In this sense, a stand in the exhibition area of the day which will be those responsible for the Andalusian project to publicize the work and the results being obtained has been enabled. The European project are developing the Andalusian professionals since 2009 is called AMICA (Autonomy, Motivation & Individual Self-Management for COPD Patients), is intended for patients with COPD (obstructive Chronic pulmonary disease) and provides for the validation of a device for the early detection of acute episodes. The works are being carried out by the research group of biomedical engineering and telemedicine of the school Superior of engineering of the University of Cádiz, led by Luis Felipe Crespo; and by the research group of Antonio Leon, head of the unit of management clinic of Pneumology of the Hospital Puerta del Mar. Thanks to the application of technology, patients using this system may be monitored by their own doctors from anywhere, facilitating the mobility of older people who suffer from this disease and giving them autonomy.

The project is part of the first call of the programme assisted daily life environment (Ambient Assisted Living, ALL), through which co-finance projects transnational research, development and innovation whose aim is the improvement of the quality of life of the elderly.

European health projects

The interest of Andalusian researchers participate in international calls is registering a very prominent in recent times increase. Only in the last year this Office has prepared 73 requests for research projects in health who opt to international funding, which represents an increase of 108,5% compared to 2010, when there were 35.
