The experts analyze the interactions that can occur between certain foods and different groups of drugs.
during a day in which participated the pharmacy director of HM hospitals were exposed the guidelines necessary to avoid negative effects that could result in patient mixing some drugs and nutrients.
-the concept of interaction diet and xenobiotic extends the traditional concept of interaction dieta-medicamento more generally to the of the of the bioactive compounds, additives, contaminants or allergens
– interactions can be classified according to the mechanism which explains the interaction, which can be both pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic
-the biodiversity of bacteria that form the intestinal microbiota It can reach its minimum only eleven days after taking antibiotics
– intestinal flora alterations have been associated with various disorders bowel, such as Crohn’s disease or irritable colon syndrome
-HM hospitals is developing a program of assisted electronic prescription in which there is a section that includes the medicamento-medicamento interactionsgenerating alerts, and reporting on the conditions of administration of drugs (before, during or after meals) to avoid a possible interaction or benefiting from it, according to the process of absorption of the medicine
Madrid, January of 2013- the month of December the pharmacy director of HM hospitals, José Manuel Ortega, participated as a speaker in the day interactions diet and Xenobiotics in the 21st century ”, organized by the Universidad CEU San Pablo and Tomás Pascual Institute. A meeting held with the objective of recognizing the main interactions that produce between different groups of medicines and food, resolve cases of mutual influence diet-Xenobiotics that occur more frequently in the daily exercise of the health profession and provide elements of criterion for decision-making with regard to measures to follow.
You can define an interaction between food and medicines like it which results in the appearance of a drug, toxic or therapeutic, effect of intensity greater than or less than expected, that occurs as a result of the action or presence of a food on a drug or vice versa ”, declares Ortega. In this sense, adds, the concept of interaction diet and xenobiotic extends the traditional concept of dieta-medicamento interaction more generally to the of the of the bioactive compounds, additives, contaminants, allergens, etc ”.
The interactions can be classified according to the mechanism which explains the interaction, which can be both pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic. HM hospitals pharmacy responsible for detailing which are clinically more important: is traditionally known interaction of the Sintróm ® anticoagulant with foods that contain large amounts of vitamin K, as the Brussels sprouts, cauliflower, and cabbage, since they may decrease the effects of this medicine. Grapefruit is also an enzyme inhibitor of many medicines, with which many of them increase the plasma levels and their toxicity ”.
Treatment with antibiotics can alter the intestinal flora
On the other hand, a study carried out by the Universidad CEU San Pablo and the Centro Superior de Investigaciones CientÃficas (CSIC), reveals that antibiotics cause changes in microbial and metabolic patterns of bowel. For the first time have been analyzed bacteria, genes, enzymes and molecules that make up the intestinal microbiota of patients treated with antibiotics and have published their results in the journal Gut.
The intestine is populated by a trillion of which are known as intestinal flora or microbiota, and bacteria that have coevolved in symbiosis with humans. But, according to this study, treatment with antibiotics may alter this symbiosis from early stages of therapy. In fact, the biodiversity of bacteria that form the intestinal microbiota can reach its only minimal eleven days after taking antibiotics.
Although at the end of the treatment the patient has a bacterial population similar to they had at the beginning, they present a lower capacity of production of proteins, as well as key deficiencies during and after the therapy ends.
The importance of intestinal flora lies in that both their genes and their biological activities can contribute to the health or development of disease. It is necessary because it acts as a defense of the human organism, and also favours the process of digestion and metabolism, so it also has a decisive influence on the nutrition ”, said Ortega. And adds that alterations in intestinal flora have been associated with various disorders bowel, such as Crohn’s disease or irritable colon syndrome ”.
In relation to treatment, the head of HM hospitals pharmacy proposes replenish the flora with Lactobacillus acidophilus, which supposedly replaced by normal flora pathogenic flora. In terms of its clinical efficacy, there is controversy, given likely inactivation of bacterial administered by gastric acid ”.
Looking to the future of this area, HM hospitals is developing a program of assisted electronic prescription in which there is a section that includes the medicamento-medicamento interactions, generating alerts and reporting on the conditions of administration of drugs (before, during or after meals) for avoiding a possible interaction or benefiting from it, depending on the process of absorption of the medicine ”, concludes Ortega.
Hospitals HM
HM hospitals is formed by various companies that manage different private medical-surgical hospitals, which include HM University Madrid, HM College MonteprÃncipe, HM College Torrelodones, HM College Sanchinarro, HM new Bethlehem and Centro Integral oncological Clara Campal (CIOCC); all of them of great human and technical qualification.
Based on a Decalogue and the Hipocratico oath directed by physicians and with the aim of offering a quality medicine, the different centres of HM hospitals have endowed with advanced technology and more humane and better qualified staff.
All HM hospitals Centers operate in an integrated manner. To do this, a corporate structure with centralized services, there is as well as different tools of integral management. This allows a synergistic and complementary action of structures, services and facilities, with the maximum use of the human and technological resources.
