Concludes the 9th edition of the “Communication and health” seminar organized by the University of Navarra and the Novartis Institute of communication in Biomedicine (INCB).

Pamplona, April 2012.- analyze key aspects of the medicine and health through different themes, inform about the doctor-patient communication, or the approach of communication in the health institutions, they are some of the subjects treated in the IX Edition of the seminar communication and health: towards the convergence of a strange couple ”, which has organized the University of Navarra with the Novartis Institute of communication in biomedicine.
Near 45 enrolled, mostly students of medicine, pharmacy, nursing, biology and information science, have participated in this seminar, held from January 17 to March 22, that pointed out how health information influences the citizen, which requires more and more quality information on health to the media.
Attendees have been able to reflect on how a special attention to the way of communicating health information, both by the doctor of the journalist. Thus, through these days, was transmitted to students the importance nowadays the binomial comunicación-salud, offering an extensive knowledge of the healthcare environment and the reality of science journalism.
For Dr. Alejandro Navas, Professor of Sociology of the University of Navarra: the seminar has been a step in the approach of the communication and the health sciences. These days have been in touch to students of various faculties, which is a very positive contribution that it promotes dialogue among future professionals of different areas. ” in addition, the expert highlighted: good understanding and collaboration between the University of Navarra and the Novartis Institute of communication in biomedicine have given rise to a project which provides a useful service for all ”.

Experts great convergence between communication and health
Dr. Alejandro Navas was commissioned to inaugurate the seminar, where the field of communication and health experts have put in common their knowledge to unify, more and more, the concepts of communication and health. Through the different presentations and selected topics have exchanged ideas on health and its impact on the media.
On the treated sanitary aspects, he stressed the presentation by Dr. Ignacio Yurss, family physician from Berriozar health centre on the drug as a nexus of Union between professionals. In addition, throughout the seminar, has deepened in some diseases and disorders, such as the psychiatric or food, and they have imparted presentations on domestic violence, PTSD, sexual transmitted diseases and how to cure and prevent risks, among others. The Director of Diario Médico, D. Javier Olave, was commissioned to open the block dedicated to the communication of health media, which focused his presentation on the medical press ”. Other topics covered were the health in the general press, communication in health institutions, the present and the future of health communication, the importance of new technologies and relationships with the media, among others.
Finally, Dr. Norberto Aguirre, Professor of Pharmacology of the University of Navarra, has closed this 9th edition of the seminar with his presentation on addiction ”.

The Novartis Institute of communication in biomedicine was created on April 24, 2001 with the purpose of bringing together activities around the communication in health and Biomedicine. Its main objective is to put at the service of teaching, institutions and the media, tools for the creation, training and dissemination of content in the field of health communication.
