Bilbao, January 2012.- Galdakao-Usansolo Hospital (HGU) has obtained the European regulation EMAS ” in environmental management, becoming the first health centre of the Basque country in obtaining this certification that recognizes a modern environmental management, transparency and participation.
In this way, after obtaining the certification of the system of environmental management under standard 14001, Galdakao-Usansolo Hospital (HGU) goes one step further and is certified under this European regulation, which is one of the most extensive known so far in environmental management.
With this recognition, the head of the maintenance service and responsible for the system of management environment of the Hospital Galdakao-Usansolo, Alberto Arriarán, affirms that it is the reward for a work of years played with effort and enthusiasm by all practitioners of the hospital and coordinated from the team of environmental improvement ”.
Arriarán also explains that this title means something more than an achievement ” because is the materialization of a compromise and recognition in the trajectory of the Centre, forcing us to embark on a path to continuous improvement and respect for the environment ”.
Since the Centre initiated the environmental path with the management of waste in 1997 has managed various certifications (EKOSCAN and ISO 14001) and has been materialized numerous projects arising mainly from the energy audit conducted in the year 2008. Since then, he has brought various facilities and services to make the building more efficient energy.
In addition, the HGU part of various initiatives of the Basque Government such as the programme Stop CO2 Euskadi ”, where he has collaborated on a pilot project for the verification of the calculation of the carbon footprint of the according to the ISO 14064 standard, and is currently attached to the eco-efficiency in the Basque company 2010-2014 program ”.
