The Infanta Cristina promotes the recovery of patients with breast cancer

presents an informative guide to deal with the disease.

Spain, 2011-September offer useful information to women and their families, help deal with the disease, ensure adaptation to everyday life and promote recovery. These are the objectives that the Hospital Universitario Infanta Cristina (HUIC) has set within your new guide to “Care basic para Pacientes con Cáncer de Mama”: an instrument of support against the most common problems among those affected.

The publication has 23 pages of practical advice to patients can be followed easily thanks to a design that promotes reading and understanding and in which graphics and illustrative photographs abound. The contents include a first explanation on breast cancer, the topicality of its multidisciplinary treatment and six keys that can help women to know when to seek medical advice.

Subsequently the guide focuses on the effects of medical treatments against this disease (accumulation of fluid or Lymphedema, decrease in leukocytes or leukopenia, anemia, aesthetic alterations …), describing its main features and changes that can cause physical and psychological.

Solutions to the problems

The guide makes a special emphasis on presenting solutions and alternatives to the more common problems in patients with breast cancer. Thus users will find detailed information for the prevention of infections, treatments and exercises against Lymphedema, how fix lack of appetite, control nausea them and vomiting and alleviate the alterations in the skin.

The document also analyzes the psychological difficulties of the disease and that can transform into the emergence of anxiety, depression, disruption of everyday life and other obstacles in personal and labour relations. Include two clear definitions about depression and anxiety, as well as explanations to know in which cases should be treated by a specialist.

The Guide has been done by the Maria doctors of the Noguero Rosario and Maria the Mar Muñoz, head of service and medical assistant of obstetrics and Gynecology, respectively, with the collaboration of the services of rehabilitation and Psychiatry at the own Hospital Infanta Cristina.
