Launches in Spain the first Observatory Social of the health originally (OSSCAR).
March 8, World Kidney day.
-la Federation ALCER launches this platform pioneering research and popularization formed by a multidisciplinary team of experts
-the aim is to raise awareness among the population and patients about the importance of chronic kidney disease and the need to prevent cardiovascular complications this entails
Madrid, March 2012.- La Federation ALCER launches, on the occasion of world kidney day, the Social Observatory of the originally health ( OSSCAR ), a platform pioneering research and outreach formed by a Scientific Committee of experts, which has the support of the Spanish society of Nephrology (SEN), the Spanish society of nursing Nefrológica (SEDEN), and the collaboration of Abbott and ESTEVE. The objective is to promote the knowledge about la enfermedad renal crónica (ERC) and raise awareness of the importance of preventing syndrome originally between the general population and patients.
The Scientific Committee of the OSSCAR is composed of a multidisciplinary group of health professionals, such as cardiologists, Nephrologists and nurses, in order to involve all the specialties related to health originally. El OSSCAR is an interactive platform where patients and general population can ask your questions to the experts, know your body mass index and receive tips cardio as well as help in interpreting its analytical tests ”, explains Maria Jesus Rollán, President of the SEDEN.
also, the services offered the OSSCAR among the calculator of cardiovascular risk, a tool based on tables of Framingham and allowing estimate, indicative way, the risk of a coronary event (angina, heart attack silent or with symptoms, mortal or not) to 10 years.
Other effective tools and they are available at the Observatory are various tables of values with the quantities of sodium, phosphorus and potassium containing foods and recommendations of consumption, as well as recommended to carry out physical exercise series and a daily menu heart adapted to the different stages of the ERC.
Dr. Iñaki Lekuona, the OSSCAR Scientific Committee member and Chief of service of Cardiology of the Hospital Chiron of Bizkaia, ensures that much of the population does not know that a few patients kidneys may pose a diseased heart and vice versa. Why the work of the OSSCAR, is so important because it informs about the ERC and syndrome originally, at the same time that offers interactive resources to deal with them effectively ”, qualifies.
The close connection between the ERC and cardiovascular diseases
Kidney disease and cardiovascular disease are closely linked: the disease of an organ can assume the illness of another, a relationship that receives the name of ‘ syndrome originally ’. In particular, more than 50% of patients with ERC died as a result of cardiovascular complications, with a 15 times greater than the general population incidence. Matters little where begins the problem, because in most cases the two bodies be affected ”, says the DRA. Isabel MartÃnez, the OSSCAR Scientific Committee member and Chief of service of Nephrology of the Hospital Chiron of Bizkaia.
When the disease begins in the kidney, the renal patient will also suffer hypertension in 95% of cases and cardiovascular involvement in an 85% 1; in fact, the kidney is involved in the origin of hypertension and is fundamental in its perpetuation. if, on the contrary, the disease which is diagnosed is heart failure (when the heart cannot pump enough blood rich in oxygen to the tissues of the body), chances are that not get enough blood to the kidney ”, explains the DRA. MartÃnez. As a result, adds, kidney not may be carried out normally their function of filtering ”.
The ERC, a disease infradiagnosticada
Around 10% of the Spanish population suffer ERC. However, there is also a large percentage of Spanish who suffer this disease and it is unknown. The problem is that the ERC does not usually give symptoms in its early stages and they only appear when the condition reaches advanced stages ”, Dr. Lekuona said.
in advanced stages, the measures that can be taken are more limited than if made an early diagnosis of the disease, so it is necessary to disseminate among the population the importance of detecting the ERC as soon ”, qualifies this specialist. In stages 1 and 2 early diagnosis is essential for the possible prevention of the loss of renal function and cardiovascular complications. According to Dr. Lekuona, some patients are diagnosed in very early stages can maintain their kidney function for many years and in some cases fail to need dialysis ”.
The ERC can diagnose through analysis of blood and urine, that is known as the degree of kidney function and therefore, to see if the person who has gone to the doctor can take signs of suffering an ERC. Another key factor that reveals that there could be a kidney problem is albumin (protein), as their level low in blood and high in urine may be a symptom that the kidneys begin to fail.
about ALCER
the Association for the fight against the kidney diseases, ALCER, is a non-profit created in 1976. A group of kidney patients were proposed to improve the living conditions of this group, in a time where access to dialysis treatment was limited to a very small number of patients and the possibility of receiving a kidney transplant were very scarce, due inter alia to the validity of a law that regulated this matter very obsolete and little awareness existing in the Spanish society for organ donation.
Little by little, the Association born in principle on a national level, was spreading to other provinces, creating different delegations. This led to the necessity of creating an entity to coordinate efforts, projects, demands and to serve for the exchange of views of all the associations. The ALCER National Federation, which was declared of public utility by the Council of Ministers in 1984 was born in 1981.
In 2003 in order to deepen the relationship between healthcare professionals dedicated the Nephrology and the ALCER National Federation, the General Assembly of the entity, decided to set up the Renal ALCER Spain Foundation, which has become an important tool to develop various projects which share a common goal which led to the creation of the Associationón, and remains to date: the improvement of the quality of life of kidney patients and their families.
