Cosmetics company Makeup Art Cosmetics (Conversely)A·(C) announced it canceled the marketing of a product line inspired by the women murdered in Ciudad Juarez, Chihuahua. This was confirmed by Rosario Robles, President of the National Commission to prevent and eradicate violence against women (CONAVIM), after a meeting yesterday afternoon with representatives of MAC in the city of Mexico.
Also the Chairperson of the CONAVIM announced that the MAC, owned by the renowned Estée Lauder company, studying the possibility of not to commercialize this cosmetic line around the world. Previous meetings had managed that MAC agreed to donate earnings in Mexico to civil associations in Ciudad Juárez, although pressures they finally decided to cancel the commercialization of these products in the country.
The mortuary received numerous responses of indignation despite still not being officially released on line. This line uses names like Juárez, Ghosttown, Bordertown and Sleepwalker, and the pictures show models make with these cosmetics showing pale faces, almost like zombies.
Ciudad Juárez is a city in the Northern State of Chihuahua which has a common border with the American city of El Paso, Texas. According to a study by a Special Commission of the Senate of the Republic, about 593 women were killed between the years 1993 and 2004, all of which have traces of physical and sexual violence. However, the figure could be higher because not reported disappearances and bodies not found.
This city is currently experiencing the largest wave of violence by the struggle between drug cartels, due to attractive for drug trafficking of the plaza.
