Madrid is the first accredited community to make all types of organ transplants.

-The number of transplants in the community has grown by 16 percent in the first five months of the year

-the 88 per cent of the families to which the donation was requested responded affirmatively

– more than 57,000 Madrid already have organs donor card

Madrid, June of 2012- the community of Madrid has become the first autonomous community whose hospital services they are accredited to perform all types of organ transplants, both adults and children, registered in Spain.

The relationship of transplant has been completed by the program of child pulmonary transplant, launched jointly by hospitals La Paz and Puerta de Hierro-Majadahonda, which has already received accreditation by the General direction of management and inspection, in collaboration with the Regional Office of coordination of transplants.

The list of types of transplants including lung, kidney, kidney transplantation from living heart, cardio-pulmonary, liver, liver donor of donor live, pancreatic, intestinal and multivisceral.

So far the community hospitals performed all types except the child lung transplant. With the first of these interventions, Madrid could be the first region to undertake all possible and accredited organ transplants in Spain.

During the first five months of 2012 hospitals of the region have made a total of 332 organ transplants, 16 percent more than 287 made in the same period of the previous year, according to data from the Regional Office of transplants coordination of the Ministry of health. Of them, 191 have been kidney – liver 85-, 22 per cent more-10 per cent more-, 24 – 9 per cent more-cardiac, pulmonary 20, pancreatic 8 and 4 bowel – 3 of them multiviscerales.

88 Percent of the families respond positively

During this period of time there have been 117 organ donors in eleven hospitals in the community, which is 33 percent more than in the same period in 2011.

These excellent results have been possible without the generous social response to the donation, not that 88 per cent of the families to which the donation was requested responded affirmatively. It is also remarkable the excellent preparation of the professionals health, as well as the invaluable collaboration of judges, forensic, forces of public order and of the numerous groups of non-health professionals involved in the donation and transplantation activity.

More than 57,000 people of Madrid have donor card

On the occasion of the national day of the donor of organs and tissues, which took place last Wednesday, the Regional transplant Coordination Office participated in the activities of holding together with the associations of sick and transplanted. A total of 25 informative tables distributed throughout the region reminded citizens the importance of expressing his desire to be organ donors, and offered the possibility of obtaining organs donor card.

The Coordinator of the Regional Office, Carlos Chamorro, met with responsible for partnerships at 12: 00 last Wednesday at the information table located in the calle Preciados. These actions involved ALCER-Madrid (Association fight against kidney disease), Association of transplanted liver of the community of Madrid, Association of transplanted heart Madrid Virgen de la Paloma ” and Association Madrid against Cystic Fibrosis.

More than 57,000 people of Madrid currently has the card of donor bodies, of which 1,500 have they requested in the first four months of this year.

Madrid sum 12 units of national reference for transplant hospitals in the network of the community of Madrid currently have 12 designations as units of national benchmarks for the realization of certain transplants, agreed by the Interterritorial Council of the national system of health among the Ministry of health, social services and equality and the autonomous communities.

Thus, Hospital Universitario 12 de Octubre is national reference for the transplantation: liver liver live adult, pancreas, kidney Crusader and intestinal in adult, child. Hospital Universitario La Paz is reference to transplants kidney child, liver, intestinal child and renal Crusader. For its part, the Hospital Universitario Puerta de Hierro-Majadahonda is national reference for the pulmonary and cardio-pulmonary transplantation in adults. Hospital Gregorio Marañon is reference to the heart transplant child.
