New look at designs in residences.

Madrid, March of 2013- in the evening of last Tuesday, March 19, took place the presentation of the book “innovations in residences for elderly people. Architectural design and model of care”in the Superior School of architecture of Madrid. The audience was large, in addition to common faces of the sector of the unit, also by architects and students that followed concerned the presentation

Professor of architecture and director of the Master of collective housing, José Mª de door, made a brief speech by calling attention to the need that the architects are aware that incorporate to the designnon needs of older persons and persons with disabilities is not only convenient but absolutely necessary.

The same idea came to reinforce by Heitor García Lantarón, architect who makes his thesis on specialized housing for the elderly, which facilitated a few facts about the phenomenon of ageing to illustrate that in a society as ageing as the Spanish doesn’t suit our architecture follow facing the wrong when looking for places to recipients of future homes. A scenario that we will place with 37% of aging, it is clear that meet the demand for accommodation for the elderly is appealing architects look at this market with new look and pose is what designs will be the best to configure comfortable and pleasant environments, based on the preferences of the people who want to continue controlling his life until the end.

The presentation of the contents of the book was provided by Pilar Rodríguez, President of the Foundation pillars of Personal autonomy, which is the Coordinator and editor of the publication. Rodriguez took a tour of the panoramic International presented throughout the two parts into which the book is divided.

In the first, architects-experts in Gerontology and disability in Europe and the United States offer the reader the latest trends and innovations on the intended architectural design for people who require ongoing attention and support. And offer examples on how to combine security and autonomy of people; How to configure environments for everyday life that, at the time, are scenarios in which professional attention. Trends point toward what one might focus on the term housing: achieve designs that people feel at home ” and have feeling of home ” and, at the time, to feel safe and cared for according to their need for support…

The second part dealt with various experiences in the work being developed in Spain to incorporate criteria as outlined, which are configured as inherent to a model of care that is seen as integral and, at the same time, that puts you at the Center people taking into account, therefore, their desires, the preservation of their rights and their dignity of life until the end. Described thus, initiatives promoted by the Administration itself (Basque country and Castilla y León), (San Camilo, residential Caser) service providers and older persons own (cooperative miracles, Malaga) or of persons with disabilities (Centre for people with spinal cord injury).

The book closes with an appendix by SIIS that examines the issue of costs through an extensive literature review on cost effectiveness, economies of scale and size of centers, who comes to question the prevailing belief that cost reduction occurs as grows the size of centers.
