Guatemala, 2 oct (EFE).-the Government of Guatemala today launched a pilot of fortified flour program which aims to reduce malnutrition that affects one of every two children in the country and to nourish pregnant mothers and nursing period, said a source officer.

the project, which will have an initial three-month duration was launched today by the President Otto Perez Molina and his Minister of agriculture, Efraín Medina, in the municipality of Concepción Tutuapa, in the Department of San Marcos, 252 kilometers Northwest of the capital.

Medina said that implementation of the corn flour, enriched and fortified with vitamins to make tortillas, seeks to reduce the levels of malnutrition in Guatemala.

the program will benefit during the first three months to 10,600 relatives of 13 municipalities in the departments of San Marcos, Huehuetenango, Quiché, Jalapa and Chiquimula, said.
