The 21 November celebrated the international day of spina bifida.
Madrid, November 2011- La Spina Bifida (EB) or Myelomeningocele (as it is scientifically called) is the congenital malformation serious, compatible with life.
According to recent studies, if all women in childbearing age consume 0.4 mg of folic acid at least 3 months before getting pregnant and during the first trimester of pregnancy, could reduce the likelihood that his son was born with EB up to 70%.
The Spanish Federation of associations of spina bifida and Hydrocephalus (FEBHI), Member entity of COCEMFE , celebrated the international day of spina bifida, a date which is for people affected by EB, a reminder to the society of his situation and the needs that have to be on equal footing with other citizens because of the consequences that entails the malformed and the high cost involved in healthcare products and orthopedic.
Therefore, the Federated associations held meetings and various acts of awareness by all Spain.
the past Wednesday, November 16 at 11: 00 started the prevention campaign, carried out by the health centres in all Spain, with the punch of the first poster in the center of health City Garden of Madrid. The event counted with the participation of Javier Fernández-Lasquetty, Director of health of the community of Madrid, Carmen Gil, President of FEBHI; Paula Rivero, Vice-President of AMEB (Madrid Association for Spina bifida); and Maria de Los Angeles Jaime, Director of the health centre where took place.
